Current position and your typical work day
No two days are the same… a typical work day? That doesn’t exist. My days usually consist of a series of emails, business phone calls, and meetings (class and business). However, again no two days are similar and depending on the season my days can consist of traveling, next going to a speaking engagement then getting back on the road or styling, pulling, and dropping off in the hours of 7:00 am – 2:00 am and getting right back up or planning events, and marketing for my website content. I have learned as a freelance fashion entrepreneur I wear many hats, thus changing the role of my job. However, that’s the thrill of working for yourself. Here’s some upcoming events I am working on:
- Website Re-Launch
- December 3, 2013 – How to Wear: Holiday Guide Segment with Closet Dash (online)
How have you developed your brand?
I have developed my brand by staying true to beliefs through social media and personal and business endeavors. Especially, when we live in a society that most people want to receive the fruits, rather than plant and do the work. My work ethic and beliefs of hard work doesn’t go unnoticed and to dream big anything is possible, truly.
Explain the role that your personal brand played in getting you to where you are today.
The role that my personal brand has played into getting me to where I am is by serving as a testament to who I truly am and more. Obviously, what you see is a layer. But however, it does not steer you wrong from who I am in reality. Therefore, it has aided with business partnerships and endeavors. After all, every post counts and you are only good as your last post.
Personal brands attract opportunities. What has been the greatest opportunity you have gotten?
All my opportunities are great, especially coming from a small town and being young in this field. Thus if you were to tell me I was going to be where I am today 3 years ago, I would have looked at you like you were crazy. I am constantly growing and every opportunity to me is great.
Who are some of your mentors and why?
My mother is my mentor. Through her endeavors she has and continues to exemplify what it means to fight for what you want, do not take “no” for an answer, as well as do what your heart desires and follow your instincts. That’s only touching a layer of the surmountable struggle that my queen has fought through. I come from a huge family and secondary needs weren’t as attainable as most. Therefore, providing an creative outlet to pick up for areas that were lacking. Such as, this one time I can remember my mother cooking out of a crock pot and no stove for a period in my childhood. However, when she cooked it did not taste as if it was made in a crock pot. The house would warm and excite your taste buds with the flavor… out of a small crock pot. That’s how great my mother is. And, again that’s just an inch of greatness that is shared via passage.
What were the steps you took in college that impacted your professional success?
Your net worth is your network. I believe college is a transition in your life to be used as building your connections. Talk to everyone, seek mentors and use the resources such as the Career Counseling Center out of many other seminars, activities that take place.
What would you say to a young person who wants to work in your industry?
Young is relative to the person. After all you have 14-15 year old being accepting into college and graduating with their degrees. Thus leading to my advice, follow your heart and trust your instincts as my mother would say.
